Support Group for the Preteens in Ogra
„In my world there are no bad kids, just impressionable, conflicted young people wrestling with emotions and impulses, trying to communicate their feelings and needs the only way they know how.”
This was the quote that popped into my mind when the school director in Ogra approached me with a proposition. She needed a psychologist to come and have some support groups with the preteens in the school. She realized the children were struggling with questions and situations that required a qualified person to counsel them. The school in Ogra being a small village school does not have a psychologist of their own. Nora Toma, one of LOC’s psychologists was willing to come, twice a week, to meet separately with the boys and the girls. It was surprising to see the girls desire to talk and share about the situations and problems they are facing, and through games and other techniques Nora is able to make them analyze each situation and try to find together a solution. The boys are still testing the field so they are still pretty reserved in sharing but we are taking small steps towards becoming a support group. We appreciate your prayers for Nora and for the preteens that find this support group a safe and healthy place where they can open and address their problems and concerns. We pray that this support group will be benefic for these kids and that the groups will get larger in time.
