Successful Christmas Project „Give From the Heart”
„Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people.
It is forgetting self and finding time for others.” Thomas S. Monson
About two months ago, after coming home from one of our programs in Ogra one evening, I was talking to my niece who’s 5 years old and she was already telling me all the things she wants for Christmas, and sadly I realized that the children in Ogra don’t even dare to think about making a wish list for Christmas.
Usually LOC received, for Christmas, some gifts for the children but there were never enough and we weren’t even sure if this year we will get some. So I thought of trying something new. I know people from other countries are inclined to giving and donating but I believed that Romanians have a good heart as well. So the next day when I came to work I decided to start a project. I’ve created an event on Facebook called „Daruieste Din Inima” which means „Give From the Heart” and in the event I was challenging the people of Targu-Mures to do something different this year for Christmas, to give gifts for the children in Ogra. The project was based on the principle of “Operation Christmas Child – Samaritan’s Purse” founded in North Carolina back in 1970. Basically you take an empty shoe box and fill it with candies, toys, hygiene products, gloves, scarfs, hats, and whatever else you think that will be useful. As soon as I posted the event on Facebook people started reacting positively. I was still nervous thinking that many times people say they will participate in a certain event but they forget eventually, but I was wrong to worry.
The first gift came on November 2nd, and as time passed more people were involved, we received gifts from individuals and from companies (Jack Travel, Targu-Mures – where the staff got together and collected over 40 boxes). We, as a team, were overwhelmed by the response of the people. As the month of December approached it did not pass a day without my phone ringing and gifts gathering. In the end we had over 120 gifts collected. We were so blessed and we are so thankful and overjoyed of how the people reacted to our project and how God blessed our initiative. We know that the people from our own communities can help and have hearts for needy children as well, and they have demonstrated this and for that we are so grateful.
If you would like to see the Ogra kids receiving all these gifts please watch our Christmas party following the link below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJeSQyzF9iY&feature=youtu.be
On this occasion we want to say THANK YOU to everyone involved in this project and want to wish them all Merry Christmas and pray that God will bless them as they have been a blessing to those who could never give back!
Merry Christmas to all readers as well! Wishing you the Love, Peace & Happiness that the true meaning of Christmas brings!
