Local Community Involvement
One of the purposes of our work within the Gypsy Community in Ogra is to empower each individual to be involved in the activities and to be an example for the others around. One of the ways we do this is by recruiting those in the community to be our volunteers.
Larisa’s Story
One of the purposes of our work within the gypsy community in Ogra is to empower each individual to be involved in the activities and to be an example for the others around.
One of the ways we do this is by recruiting the teens in the community to be our volunteers. Larisa graduated from 8th grade this year, passing the exams and being accepted into high school in Targu-Mures, a high school that trains students to become teachers.
At the beginning of summer, we asked Larisa if she wanted to be one of our volunteers, starting to work with the group of 5–6 year-olds. Larisa accepted with excitement and joy. I have been watching Larisa all summer, interacting and working with the children. She was very patient and caring, and she was a huge help to the little ones who only speak gypsy.
Please keep Larisa in your prayers as she has started high school. She is now living in the dorm during the week, which is a great change for her. She has moments when she misses home and her mom, dad and younger brother . Continue to pray for us that the work that we do in Ogra will be one that brings glory to God while also helping the community of Gypsies.
