In early September 2024, Livada Orphan Care hosted a transformative Therapeutic Camp, offering the children a chance to explore, connect, and dream about the future. Here’s a glimpse into the incredible week we shared:
Day 1: Building Connections
We kicked off the week with a focus on connection and getting to know each other. The children and volunteers paired up with a “buddy,” who would support and encourage them throughout the camp. The motto of the day, “Don’t be Pepsi, be Zen,” reminded us to embrace inner peace amidst challenges. Laughter, games, and creative activities filled the day as each child designed a personal memory box to store their thoughts, emotions, and joys.
Day 2: Exploring Space – Personal and Cosmic
The second day took us on a journey of space exploration—both in the cosmos and within ourselves. The children learned about personal space, boundaries, and the importance of respecting others. A humorous skit imagining what would happen if planets invaded each other’s space brought lots of laughs while reinforcing these valuable lessons.
Day 3: Reflecting on the Past
“Dear Past, Thank you for everything you taught me,” was the theme for day three. Together, we reflected on the lessons from our past, learning to embrace our experiences and those of others with gratitude. The children created memory albums filled with photos and stories, helping them understand how their journey so far has shaped who they are today.
Day 4: Dreaming of the Future
On day four, the focus shifted to the future with the theme “Dear Future, I’m ready! With love, me.” The children shared their dreams and discussed the steps they could take to make them a reality. Each child created a “vision board,” a collage of their hopes and goals, full of color and optimism. We ended the day with a celebration of Antonia’s birthday, complete with a panda-shaped cake, bringing extra joy to the camp.
The children also met with local police representatives, who provided practical safety advice, preparing them for a secure future. This special moment reminded us all that the future is bright, and we are ready for whatever comes our way.
These heartwarming moments reminded us how important it is to foster hope, build connections, and offer support as these children look toward a bright and hopeful future. We can’t wait to continue making a difference together!
